In 2025, LEGO Education announced the retirement of the SPIKE Prime platform and will conclude sales on June 30, 2026. Many of the schools participating in Unified Robotics rely on FIRST LEGO League teams to support and utilize SPIKE Prime kits for Unified Robotics. With the additional change of FIRST and LEGO Education ending their partnership beginning fall 2027, including the transition of FIRST LEGO League into a new program, there have been many questions about how Unified Robotics will adjust the robotics platform.

The following are some of the priorities that Unified Robotics Leadership and the Game Design Committee will consider during this transition:

    1. A simple and robust structure to building robots that allows teams to be creative
    2. Versatile in components, with a variety of motors and sensors available to use
    3. Easy to connect and code, utilizing block coding and plug-and-play sensors
    4. A sustainable system that will allow teams to use the same kit year-over-year

After some initial discussions with Regional Directors, Unified Robotics will have the LEGO SPIKE Prime kits as the de facto platform for the 2026 and 2027 season. We anticipate learning from FIRST and partners on the future of their platform and can provide additional guidance and support over the coming months.

Thus, we strongly recommend that you purchase SPIKE Prime kits from the LEGO Education site until they are out of stock on June 30, 2026. There may also be opportunities to obtain kits secondhand through local FIRST LEGO League teams or other websites.
